Vijay Karamcheti. GreenCloud and the New Data Center Infrastructure for Cloud Services.
Cloud Computing Conference - Cloud Slam 2009.
Abstract.
Vijay Karamcheti, Chief Technology Officer, Virident Systems.
Merrill Lynch estimates that within the next five years, the annual global market for cloud computing and services will surge to $95 billion – 12% of the worldwide software market. The size of data stores and content on major web sites is estimated to be quadrupling every 18 months and the number of queries per terabyte is doubling every 18 months. This explosive demand for data is challenging internet companies that are struggling to manage costs and keep up with data center growth in a challenging economy. Today’s servers were designed for compute-centric applications and are not optimized for memory-bound, query-rich applications, which predominate in the internet data center. Vijay Karamcheti, CTO of Virident, will discuss a new strategy and architecture for managing growth in the cloud, with greater efficiency and extreme performance due to a new tier of high performance memory that combines the best of the two approaches to break the ‘memory bottleneck’.
