Krishnan Subramanian. The importance of Open Source in a SaaS based world.
Cloud Computing Conference - Cloud Slam 2009.
Abstract. There is an opinion that open source has no relevance in the SaaS based world. In this paper, we counter that opinion with strong arguments supporting the need to have open source in the middle of SaaS ecosusystem. We argue that along with open standards and data portability, open source is vital for the success of SaaS. We propose a SaaS ecosystem with open source as the main feature and offer various scenarios highlighting its importance. This paper will try to counter the talk about irrelevance of open source in the SaaS world as well as some myths about SaaS present among the proponents of open and free software.
